Brash Vineyard is situated in the wine appellation of Margaret River, in the sub-region of the Yallingup Hills.
The Yallingup Hills are located at the northern end of what is recognised as one of the finest viticulture climates in the world — a gentle Mediterranean climate further enhanced by the moderating effects of ocean on three sides. These positive effects include a lack of frost damage in vines as well as ensuring cool, relaxed evenings over summer months when vines can rest from the warm to hot days that prevail.
As far as wine regions go, Margaret River is but ‘a baby’ in international wine region terms. It is only 50 years since two well-known scholars Gladstone and Olmo recognised this unique viticulture location. Quickly followed several Perth doctors who established the first commercial wineries and now more than 50 years on, the baby is growing into a stunning young wine region that is the envy of many around the world.
Margaret River has become internationally renowned for producing premium table wines, in particular cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. However the region also produces shiraz, sauvignon blanc and several other varieties at world class standards. Only producing 3% of the Australian grape crop, Margaret River does contribute over 20% of the premium wine made in Australia. The region has quickly become a wine and food ‘must visit’ for visitors from all over the world.
Brash Vineyard has 18 hectares of vines situated amongst towering jarrah and marri trees, which provide wonderful amphitheatres for growing vines, protecting the grapes from the elements of weather. Grapes grown are:
- Cabernet Sauvignon 8ha
- Shiraz 3.25ha
- Malbec 1.2ha
- Chardonnay 4.1ha
- Sauvignon Blanc 1.6ha
The vines were first planted in 2000 and years of subtle adjustment now sees the vineyard growing each of our varieties on the site best suited to that grape type.
